11-22. Gold #4.
Two-fold symmetry and the color of gold.
The mineral Gold in its purest form is mostly monochrome. Thanks to the thread posted recently by Jeff Low on his FB page and the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, I was able to tap into the amazing Forbes pigment collection. 3,000-some pigments – a lot of yellow too. For this visualization, I chose: background: usuzumi; center: odo; and foreground: kidsho-kiroku.
Transposing natural pigments chemical profile into the RGB environment may not scientifically perfectly accurate but it was fun to try and I learned that Gold color variation is determined by the frequency of plasma oscillations between the outer shell electrons. Good enough an explanation for the (visual) perception of an artwork!
